My most fun and memorable moment experience ? was the “fright night” planned by my seniors who are also known as specialists during my NCC Unit Camp held over the March holidays. The fright night was scary, but in a way, fun came out of it. The event started at 9.p.m promptly at the parade square in front of the flag-post and my platoon specialist, Staff Aliah, who is also known as the person in charge of my platoon, started off by shouting, “Hey everybody, look up!” Ear-piercing screams were heard soon after. The Secondary twos and threes, including some of my platoon mates, huddled together. They had expected something horrifying to drop out of the sky until they heard laughter. “Hahaha, that was so lame!” Staff Aliah laughed hysterically while clutching her stomach. We heaved a sigh of relief and we started our fright night after that.
Everyone was told to pair up and to line up in two straight rows. As we roamed around the school with our specialists leading us, we took small steps and were wary for any movement or sound around us. As we turned round the corner, we all started to scream our hearts out as we saw something but laughed soon after realizing we just saw a toy car. Unfortunately, my partner was too afraid to go on and she was led into the canteen to rest by another specialist. After 10 minutes, we came by the same spot again only to find out the toy car was moving. We ran in different directions as fast as we could. Thankfully our specialist managed to calm as down and we carried on with the event. But this time we were to roam the second floor. While roaming, our specialist started telling as a ghost story of how a pregnant Japanese lady used to walk around the track and one day her baby died. She was so grief-stricken that she killed herself. And so while we were walking past the spiral staircase shutter, we hear the song ‘rock-a-bye-baby’ and all of a sudden some banging noises were heard and they came as a shock to us. One of my platoon mates even started to cry as she was terrified.
After roaming the second floor we came back to the first floor but we went to the toilet instead. We were led in to the toilet but that was when our specialist (turned) off the lights and closed the door. We heard hammering noises inside the toilet and everyone was screaming hysterically but one of my platoon mates commented, “The cleaner must be cleaning the toilet!” when we heard the toilet door unlock, we rushed out only to find another platoon mate crying. Sadly, that was when our very much enjoyed event came to an end. We then dragged our feet to the assembly area while we prepared to get ready for bed. I hope that during my next NCC camp, my specialist will plan something as entertaining as this.

Le Xuan's personal recount

Today was a very memorable day. I never knew I could run such a long distance. It may not be fun, but it was definitely memorable. During basketball training, we did physical fitness. It was something like a test to train our speed.

First, we ran our usual thirteen laps around the basketball court. After we were done, our secondary three senior told us we were going to do physical fitness. We did not know what that was and just followed her to the 400m track. Along the way, she asked for our 2.4km and 1.6km timings. Upon reaching, she told us to run 1.6km under 8 minutes, 2 minutes lesser than my usual timing. Furthermore, there were dire consequences for failing. At that point in time, it seemed almost impossible, with the sweltering hot sun and my rumbling stomach. And so we ran – no walking. At the end of the last round, I sprinted to the finish line feeling relieved thinking it was all over. Clearly I was wrong. It was just the beginning of our senior’s little game. As Qian Yu stopped to walk, she had to sprint 400m in 50 seconds. Next, our senior asked me and Azrin to race against each other. The loser had to run more. I started out fast but had to slow down when coming back due to lack of energy. I lost and therefore had to forfeit another 400m. While I was doing that, Qian Yu and Azrin were competing in sit ups. As I was finishing, our senior commented, “You did great.” I would have smiled if I were not so tired. Next, we were told to run 3 rounds together under 6 and a half minutes. Initially, we struggled as we were all extremely exhausted. But our senior ran with us and told us to keep to her pace or risk doing 100 pumpings. “Persevere! Don’t stop. Don’t walk. Do it for your team mates.” were her words of encouragement. And so I survived the first round. During the second round, I felt like walking so many times due to the rapidly decreasing amount of energy. However, I thought of how much more we had to run if we failed and persisted. When we finally completed that 3 rounds, I had already developed side stitches, and Azrin claimed that she was about to faint. For the final segment of our senior’s “little game”, we had to run 200m then tag the next person.

Later, Azrin heard another senior exclaiming that she made us do 3 times of whatever the coach instructed. I felt so proud of myself.

Finally, I think the reason why she is pushing us so hard is because of what she said. “You all have to train like this if you don’t want to end up like us.” It shows that she thought Cedar Basketball was not good enough. And I agree. Therefore, we should put in all our effort into training and do Cedar proud.

What made this incident memorable is the unforgettable experience with my friends. It isn’t easy to forget running more than 2.8km with your friends. Most importantly, our senior taught us to do our best for our team.

Signing off,
Le Xuan

I was greeted by this huge room, decorated with all Mickey Mouse items, for example shampoo, shoes, even the dressing table. This room is in Hong Kong, near a very fun and exciting place. And…. This place is the well-known Hong Kong Disneyland’s hotel room!

I was there with my family members during the March holidays. As we had never been toHong Kong Disneyland, thus we decided to try the rides there.

In Hong Kong Disneyland, we tried many rides, for example the many adventures of Winnie the Pooh, etc. However, the most memorable and enjoyable ride was the space mountain. It is a semi-roller coaster which is found indoors. Thus, it is listed under the ‘deepest and darkest space’. I think it is much safer than the outdoors roller coaster. The second reason that I enjoyed it most was because it is indoors, thus is in an air-conditioned room!

The second ride that I remembered most about was the Buzz Lightyear Astro Blaster. We were supposed to sit in pairs in a small hood less cabin and using the “gun” provided, we were aiming for the targets as the cabin moves unsteadily. I was then competing with my elder brother with the scores. Unfortunately, I had failed to “conquer” him …

During the nights there, we watched the performances prepared by the staffs. They were great! The two performances that I have watched are the ‘Golden Mickeys’ and ‘the festival of the Lion King’. I totally attracted by the performances!

The most memorable and fun moments were not only the rides or the scores we got for the rides, but were the process and jokes that we had experienced or said in a family, which was counted as family bonding.

One of the funniest moments I had was when I was in primary school. It was March and the sun’s rays were beating hard on my neck. I had decided to prank my friend and set about doing it by telling her stories about ghosts. I had initially planned to only ‘prove’ that ghosts existed but as I thought more about it, I decided not to be so merciful and decided to lock her in the supposedly haunted washroom. I felt a slow and evil grin creep onto my face. Little did I know that my plan was going to backfire on me.

After school had ended, I brought my friend to a corner and decided to put my plan into action. Madhu, do you know ghosts existed? I can even prove it to you that they do. Let us go to the 4th level washroom and test out the story.” It was a rumour that the washroom was haunted and that a faceless ghost lived there. We walked up to the washroom with a spring in our steps and trepidation fluttering in our hearts. She walked into the washroom and I followed her. We went into separate cubicles. When I went out, I realized that Madhu was nowhere to be seen. She had already gone out. She had to be waiting for me outside. When I went to open the washroom’s door, I realized that it was locked. Oh no! My fear started to increase. I felt tears of perspiration run down my back. I felt dizzy and I could feel my fear reaching to its peak. I felt a cold draft hit my back and cause tingles. Then somebody tapped my shoulder. I turned behind and saw someone who did not have a face. I could not identify any features on the face. It was just expressionless. Being the naïve child I was then, I thought it really was a ghost and started to hyperventilate. There were also a few moans. “Ahhh!!!” I screamed as I felt fear run through me. It was horrifying experience. Out of the blue, the door knob opened. My savior! It turned out to be Madhu and not the cleaner who had access to the keys. I was confused and had a question mark look on my face. She jingled a set of keys in front of me. “I borrowed the keys from the cleaner. So, happy early April’s Fool! “she explained. I realized that it was 31st March. We remained friends throughout primary school.

Friendship is something to be treasured. If you are true friends, you will be able to forgive and not bear a grudge just because they pulled a prank. Even though I lost my voice for a few hours, it was a day to be remembered as my friend used my secret fear (ghosts) to turn the tables on me. I learnt that memories with friends can be sad, joyful even exciting. However, the ones you experience the most are fun events so cherish these memories as you never know what is coming next.
